2023 ODI World Cup in India 'biggest-ever' as it generated economic benefit of USD 1.39 billion: ICC

The Economic Impact Assessment conducted by Nielsen for the ICC, claimed that the mega-event held in October-November last year was the biggest-ever ODI World Cup.

2023 ODI World Cup in India created an "ecomic impact" of USD 1.39 billion with tourism among biggest beneficiaries, according to a report released by International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday.

Ecomic Impact Assessment conducted by Nielsen for ICC, claimed that mega-event held in October-vember last year was biggest-ever ODI World Cup .

" ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 has demonstrated significant ecomic power of cricket, generating ecomic benefit of USD 1.39 billion (Rs 11,637 crore) for India," ICC Chief Executive, Geoff Allardice said in a statement.

Australia ended India's unbeaten run in tournament to win trophy for a record-extending sixth time.

" impact of tourism across host cities amounted to USD 861.4 million of revenue generation, through accommodation, travel, transportation and food and bever because of a massive influx of domestic and foreign tourists attending matches," read an ICC statement.

" secondary and incremental spends within ecomy was a key driver, generating USD 515.7 million, which was approximately 37 per cent of total impact." However, ICC did t specify wher massive figure cited in report is actual revenue.

A record-breaking 1.25 million spectators attended mega event, of which nearly 75 per cent were attending an ICC 50-over match for first time ever, report claimed.

"Nearly 55 per cent of international respondents had previously visited India regularly, whilst an injection of new visitors thanks to World Cup saw 19% of international attendees making ir first ever visit to country.

"International travellers visited multiple tourist destinations during ir stay which amounted to an ecomic impact of USD281.2 million and nearly 68 per cent of international attendees said that y would recommend India as a tourist destination to friends and family in future furr enhancing India's global im," read statement from governing body.

Over 48,000 full and part time jobs were created by event through direct involvement in delivering tournament, as well as or organisations across hospitality sector, added report.
