‘A Right-Handed Opener’: Mark Taylor Sets Criteria for AUS Opener Amid Green's Uncertainty For BGT

The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy has Australia and Team India very much focused on it, as the red-ball series down under is anticipated to be an exciting ride for the spectators. Both teams are making sure that their best players are healthy ahead of the competition in preparation for the big showdown down under. However, the Australians could suffer a severe blow before the competition even starts if they lose out on Cameron Green ahead of the Test series.

Mark Taylor Establishes Criteria for Australia’s New Opening Batsman for BGT Amid Cameron Green's Uncertainty 

Amid the anticipation over all-rounder Cameron Green possibly missing out on the entire Border Gavaskar Trophy series, former AUS star Mark Taylor opened up on whom should open alongside Usman Khawaja when Australia bats against India at BGT. During an appearance on the Nine's Wide World of Sports, Taylor proposed pushing Cameron Bancroft As a replacement for Green to open the innings and pushing star batter Steve Smith back to the number four spot.

"It's an awkward one, isn't it? Cam Green was out of the Australian side during the Ashes series of last year and Mitch Marsh came in but Australia were very keen to get him back in.

“I think Smith will move back to No.4. So the question is who will open? I'd love to see a right-handed opening batsman get the opportunity. And to me at the moment... I would have Bancroft pencilled in alongside (Usman) Khawaja,” Mark Taylor said

According to ESPNCricinfo, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green may need back surgery after suffering an injury during the white-ball series against England, so he probably won't play in the November Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India. The high-performance team at CA is working on Green, but it looks like they're taking their time.

If Gren opts to get his back operated, it will be his first major surgery, which could rule him out of the entire Test season. However, his absence might make Australia's game plan more difficult when they play the Men in Blue.
