Aakash Chopra urges Kolkata to hand over captaincy reigns to youngster Shubman Gill

Aakash Chopra has urged the two-time winners Kolkata to hand over the captaincy reigns to youngster Shubman Gill. Gill had amassed 440 runs from 14 games.

Aakash Chopra has said that Kolkata should appoint young opener Shubman Gill as ir captain after he had an outstanding season with bat in Dream11 IPL 2020. youngster had amassed 440 runs in 14 matches. This was his third season with former champions in cash-rich event. 

'Should  appoint him as ir captain'

“I am saying about Shubman Gill, that y should appoint him as ir captain. y have to make team for next three years. I don’t feel y should make Eoin Morgan captain. y shouldn’t make him captain as he is an overseas player, y can play him if y want but y shouldn’t make him captain", said Chopra while interacting on a video of his Facebook p.

At same time, former Delhi cricketer also added that Kolkata should build team around Shubman Gill if y want to look ahead for next three years just like how Delhi had done with Shreyas Iyer by giving him a strong coaching staff so that Gill gets support, and after that over a period of time, he will graduate and mature into a captain.

Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi have been excellent in last couple of seasons of IPL. y had finished third in 2019 and were runners-up of this year's tournament after going down to title-holders Mumbai in a one-sided contest.

Kolkata in Dream11 IPL 2020

two-time champions had blown hot and cold in 13th edition of marquee tournament. y did man to snatch victory from jaws of defeat in two successive games but at same time, also suffered bitter defeats at hands of Bangalore in both ir league games against three-time finalists (by 82 runs & 8 wickets respectively).

In ir final league match, y faced 2008 champions Rajasthan in what was a virtual quarterfinal that y went on to win by a huge margin of 60 runs after which ir playoff chances relied on final match of league sts between Mumbai and Hyderabad.

Unfortunately, lady luck did t smile on m as Orange Army decimated Rohit Sharma & Co. by 10 wickets to secure a fifth straight playoff berth while Kolkata were left to lick ir wounds after being kcked out. Eoin Morgan-led side finished tournament at fifth position with 14 points from same number of matches.
