"It will be the first thing we do"

After taking charge as the BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly in his address to the media said, "Focussing on the structure and the roster of first-class cricket will be the first thing we do. We will get that done before the actual Ranji Trophy season starts. The structure is there, the tournaments are there, and there are more teams now. The number of matches has doubled in the last three years. When I played for Bengal, and some of my colleagues played for the other States, there were about 1,000 games to be looked at. Now there are around 2,000 games with new States, newer affiliations. So we will have to account for it. It has already been accounted this season, we will have to make sure that the tournament in the country is competitive and it remains important to everyone because that is where you get the Kohlis, the MS Dhonis, Rohit Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahanes of Indian Cricket. The structure has to be the best, both structure-wise and financially, and that will be the first thing to be done by the Apex Council making sure that the First-class players are looked after."

"Thank God there was no D/L method," says Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly also took a dig at the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup final as England was adjourned the winner on more number of boundaries. He said, "Thank God there was no D/L method. D/L method is something that none of us have been able to understand. When New Zealand lost, everyone started jumping with the rules up and down but New Zealand was aware of the rules, it is just unfortunate that they were on the wrong side. Whatever happened was because of the rules set before the tournament."
