Asia Cup far-fetched possibility due to recession-like situation: BCCI official

The Asia Cup T20 was supposed to be hosted by the PCB in the UAE according to reports. The tournament may now be shelved for this year, at least. Read more.

As India continues to reel courtesy coronavirus pandemic, it is w being predicted that Asia Cup T20, which was scheduled to be played in September 2020, will be called off. As of w, all major tournaments have been postponed or cancelled and reports are even suggesting that IPL 2020 may finally be called off as well. In this scenario, a lot of things will have to go Asia Cup's way for it to even see light of day.

BCCI source reveals that Asia Cup cancellation is on cards

According to a report by IANS, a BCCI official has claimed that Asia Cup T20 will t be happening this year. tournament, which was supposed to be held in September 2020, was being hosted by Pakistan Cricket Board and scheduled to be played in UAE, according to reports. official cited fact that extent of coronavirus pandemic is such that ecomic losses across sectors globally cant be predicted just yet.

official also added that BCCI will have to face liabilities and new difficulties once rmal functioning resumes. Keeping all this in mind, BCCI official felt that Asia Cup T20 would probably be shelved.  same report even mentioned how host board PCB was t able to accurately predict future of tournament as an Asian Cricket Council meeting is impending for same.

IPL 2020 cancelled?

Amidst rising concerns around vel coronavirus, BCCI had IPL postponed to a date beyond April 15 and new reports are w suggesting that IPL may be cancelled completely. However, BCCI has made official anuncement on matter yet. first match of IPL 2020 was supposed to be played on Sunday with Mumbai Indians going head to head against Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
