Asia Cup: Ground staff in Sri Lanka praised for hard work but how much do they get paid?

A look at how much does the hard working groundsmen of the R Premadasa Stadium get paid by Sri Lanka Cricket for one hard working day of labour.

The rain was like a permanent resident in the India vs Pakistan Super 4s Asia Cup 2023 clash at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The cricket fans had to wait for two days to know the result of the match due to the rain. However, the main credit behind the successful conduct of the match goes to groundsmen present at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The rain halted the match several times which made an extremely difficult task more difficult for the support staff of the RPS Stadium in Colombo.

How much does Sri Lanka cricket pay to their ground staff? 

The groundsmen of any cricket ground are like unsung heroes and are often not given enough credit for the immense hard work they do in the preparation of any stadium ahead of any cricket match. The support staff present in the stadium premises have plenty of work to do ahead of the match which includes the preparation of the outfield and most importantly the pitch. The ground staff of the RPS Stadium in Colombo worked day and night to make an epic IND vs PAK clash possible. However, many cricket fans will be very eager to know, how much these staffs get paid by for the immense hard work and labour they do the to create the perfect atmosphere for the entertainment of the fans. 

Rohit Sharma and others had high praise for the ground staff who did a terrific job at RPS, but not many are aware that these guys get paid a pittance. For one full day’s hard labour, each one is paid Rs. 2000 (less than 7 USD, around 550 INR).

As per a report, each ground staff of Sri Lanka cricket is paid around 2000 Sri Lanka Rupee which is less than seven USD and INR 550 for a full hardworking day.

Rohit Sharma praises RPS group staff after the IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023 match

After the Indian cricket team routed Pakistan in Colombo, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma praised the ground staff of the R Premadasa Stadium for their immense hard work and for making the IND vs PAK match possible. 

The Indian cricket team has secured a pretty healthy net run rate after their dominating win against Pakistan and even if their remaining Super 4s matches against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are washed out due to rain, the team will qualify for the Asia Cup 2023 finals.
