Aus vs Pak: Cricket Australia shares video of Mark Waugh's stunning catch from 1999

Australia have always been fierce competitors. They leave no stone unturned when they step out on the field. The Aussies have always set huge standards in the field, they are one of the best fielding sides in the game and have redefined fielding by taking some breathtaking catches. On such catch was taken by Mark Waugh in 1999 which sent Inzamam-ul-Haq back to the pavilion.

Cricket Australia on Monday shared a video on Instagram of the famous catch by Waugh which dismissed Inzamam in the second Test of Pakistan’s tour to Australia, at Hobart in 1999.

Pakistan had conceded a lead of 24 runs in the first innings but were going strong in the second innings. Shane Warne made life difficult for them but they carried on courtesy an Inzamam hundred. The score was was 359 for seven, when Inzamam facing Warne, tried to cut a good length flighted delivery just outside the off-stump. The ball was dropped a bit short and Inzamam attempted a late back foot cut to get it past point but only managed to get a thick outside edge.

The ball flew to the slip cordon at a rocketing speed but couldn’t pass Mark Waugh, who is regarded as one of the finest slip fielders in the game. Waugh held on to a fierce top-edge as the ball passed him. Showing tremendous reflex, Waugh extended his right hand and in no time grabbed the ball. Perhaps it needed a stellar effort of this sort to remove a well-set Inzamam, batting on 118.

The Test will be best remembered for the chase of 369 that Australia pulled off. They were at 126 for five, when Justin Langer and Adam Gilchrist added 238-runs for the sixth wicket against a lethal Pakistani bowling attack, to complete one of the most remarkable chases.
