Currently on a tour to Australia, Pakistan cricket team recently lost the third T20I at Perth by 10 wickets to surrender the series 2-0. Before their tour ‘Down Under’, the number 1 ranked T20 side also lost a historic home series against an inexperienced Sri Lankan line-up. Following their defeat to Sri Lanka and a disappointing campaign in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, regular skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was sacked from captaincy. Pakistan’s prolific batsman Babar Azam was then appointed as skipper for the T20I series in Australia.

The change in captaincy, however, did not change the team’s fortunes as Pakistan suffered yet another series defeat. The decision to switch the leadership role just before a grueling tour like Australia did not go down well with former Pakistani legend Inzamam-ul-Haq. Speaking to a Pakistani sports forum, Inzamam slammed current Pakistan’s chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq for giving the role to a completely new captain. He acknowledged the debacle and added that tweaking with the squad before a tour like Australia was never an option.
