Australia batsman Peter Handscomb talks financial crisis, IPL and county cricket

Middle-order batsman Peter Handscomb last played for Australia in the semi-final defeat to eventual winners England at last year's ICC Cricket World Cup.

With Cricket Australia now facing a financial crisis, Handscomb is expected to be one of the two players from last year's world cup squad that may lose an annual contract. Handscomb is also a player delegate at the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) that is involved in negotiations with Cricket Australia before the new contracts are signed.

Reports in Australia say players may have to take a 25% cut in their wages but Handscomb clarified that wage cut is not a given yet.

Unlike many of his compatriots, Handscomb is not a player who has a IPL (Indian Premier League) contract even though he is not shy of playing a dual role - as a wicket-keeper batsman in white ball cricket. Handscomb, however, is keen to further his interestes in county cricket in England.

Handscomb believes the ICC T20 World Cup still have a great chance to be played on schedule given that Australia may see lot of sporting action return in the near future.
