Bangladesh unveil their 15-member strong ODI World Cup squad, former captain snubbed

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, who is arguably their best batter in the format, has not been picked up in the ODI World Cup squad.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday unveiled a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. Shakib Al Hasan has been named the captain of the side while Litton Das has been picked as his deputy. Meanwhile, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, who is arguably their best batter, has not been picked up in the squad. The pace bowling lineup comprises Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tanzim Hasan.

Bangladesh's ODI World Cup squad

In a late development, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed has earned his place in the World Cup squad following a strong performance in the Asia Cup, showcasing his impressive skills. Meanwhile, there are four players from Bangladesh's U-19 World Cup winning team - Towid Hridoy, Shoriful Islam, Tanzid Hasan, and Tanzim Hasan.

It is worth noting that Tanzim recently came under the limelight for all the wrong reasons. His old posts on Facebook resurfaced where he disrespected women in general. He later apologised for his behaviour. However, Tanzim put on a really good performance during the Asia Cup which could be the reason behind his selection.
