The Indian sub-continent, which was once used to be a haven for batters, has over the years become a happy hunting place for bowlers, particularly for spinners. The huge 500-plus totals that were a recurrence in every series have somewhat become extinct. According to Team India's captain Rohit Sharma, it is a testament to how tough it has become to bat in India.

Rohit Sharma on the curbed flow of runs in India

Ahead of the start of the Asia Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma paid heed to a number of subjects and one among the many was how the run-flow has dried up over the years on surfaces in India, in Test Cricket. Speaking to PTI, Sharma drew parallels between his scores here and what he made overseas. The skipper divulged that the team agreed to play on challenging pitches and hence the aspect of average does not make much clamours within the team now.

"Look at my recent Test innings in India. I can tell you that batting in India is much more difficult now than batting overseas, especially in the last 2-3 years. The pitches that we have played on, it is more challenging than overseas. That's why we haven't spoken about runs and averages of batting units. All of us agreed that we want to play on challenging pitches," Rohit told PTI in an interaction.

Rohit Sharma says the team likes to take up challenges

Sharma stated that the team likes to play on pitches where the bowlers enjoy bowling. "I don't want to worry about what kind of averages we finish with. That is how I think, but different players will have different thought processes, and I don't want to change that. I am going to play on pitches that suit our bowlers."

Rohit Sharma's captaincy is apparently under watch, and his tenure will be judged on the way India plays in the next 3 months. If Team India wins the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, then he will script his name in history, and if not, then he might get ousted. So, a huge next quarter is in sight for Team India's captain.
