A junior member of Indian cricket team's support staff was accused of "inappropriate behaviour" by a female hotel employee in Antigua, an incident dismissed as a "case of mistaken identity" by BCCI but mentioned in n ministrative manr's communication with Board. Former team manr Sunil Subramaniam has claimed that during last month's tour of West Indies, team was caught in potentially explosive situation on sidelines of first Test in Antigua, which was held from August 22 to 26.  In a mail to Committee of ministrators (CoA) on September 25, which is in PTI's possession, Subramaniam first complained about incident before withdrawing his assertions but with suggestion that accused member of support staff be spoken to. A BCCI official ackwledged that an incident did take place in team hotel but said it was a case of mistaken identity and member of support staff came out blame-free after an inquiry by Antigua Police.

"It was found out to be a case of mistaken identity once an inquiry was done. staff with whom alleged misbehaviour happened was shown photographs of all support staff members but she didn't identify any of m," a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anymity.

"Also room number that was provided didn't belong to any member of Indian contingent," he ded.

Subramanium alleged that case was hushed up

Subramaniam's tenure ended with West Indies tour after being accused of high-handed behaviour with top officials of Indian High Commission. In his original mail to CoA, Subramaniam has alleged that matter was hushed up and that inquiry h confirmed that junior member was guilty.  "... concerned member is still very much a part of Indian team," wrote Subramanian in letter he later withdrew.  "Investigation by Hotel manment, Antiguan Police, Roland Holder of Cricket West Indies and myself along with team Security manr and logistics manr did confirm that it was indeed a member of support staff.

" matter was handled in such a manner that team and more importantly concerned member of team was spared any embarrassment from any entity that would exploit it for obvious reasons. hotel me a request that we internally take measures to correct such inappropriate behaviour," he ded in mail. " inaction of BCCI on a matter as grave as this is beyond belief."

In second mail withdrawing his complaint, Subramanian said: "It is never my intention to attack any individual personally. As regards indiscretion of  support staff mentioned, it would be best if he has a word spoken to on t to repeat such indiscretions in future."  Subramaniam, who played 74 first-class games, was himself caught in a storm when an Indian High Commission staff complained that manr misbehaved with him while coordinating team's shoot for 'Swacch Bharat Campaign'. Subramaniam, who h earlier apologized for this, asserted that he did thing wrong in latest mail.  He was eventually removed from position.
