BCCI confirms postponing summer tours of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe due to COVID-19

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have released a statement on Friday confirming the postponement of their tours to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday in an official statement anunced that Indian cricket team will t travel to Sri Lanka or Zimbabwe for ir scheduled tours this summer amidst coronavirus pandemic. Virat Kohli's Team India were scheduled to tour Sri Lanka this month for a six-match limited-overs series followed by tour to Zimbabwe in July. postponement of both tours comes after Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI already postponed much-anticipated IPL 2020 indefinitely, which was slated to begin in March.

BCCI postpones India's tours of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe

Sourav Ganguly's BCCI released a statement on Friday confirming postponement of tours. statement signed off by Horary BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said that Indian cricket board will organise a camp for its contracted players only when it is completely safe to train outdoors, referring to it's earlier statement on same lines. While BCCI remains keen to resume international and domestic cricket as soon as y can, Sourav Ganguly-led board will take risks that will jeopardise efforts put in by central and State governments to control spread of coronavirus.

BCCI statement also said that Sourav Ganguly and or office members have been constantly taking te of advisories issued by Indian government and will continue to study and evaluate changing situation.

coronavirus pandemic has seen cricket calendar being brought to an abrupt halt with IPL 2020 cancelled and has also cast a doubt on future of T20 World Cup. Furrmore, major bilateral series across globe have been cancelled, leaving fans and players without any cricketing action. West Indies tour of England is likely to be first bilateral series after coronavirus enforced break, with Windies already in UK a month prior to start of tour. BCCI plans to hold IPL 2020 at some point this year and if T20 World Cup is postponed, window will be used by Sourav Ganguly-led board to host cash-rich mega T20 tournament.
