BCCI elections on Oct 23 instead of Oct 22: CoA chief Rai

The BCCI's much-awaited elections have been rescheduled by a day to October 23 in the wake of assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, Vinod Rai told PTI

BCCI's much-awaited elections have been rescheduled by a day to October 23 in wake of assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, Chairman of Committee of ministrators (CoA) running Indian cricket Vid Rai told PTI on Tuesday. Both states will be voting on October 21 in a single-phase elections and to ensure that voter members from two units are t inconvenienced, Cricket Board poll, which was to be held on October 22, has been postponed by a day.

" BCCI elections are on track. It's just because of state polls, we have decided to reschedule by a day. So it will w be held on October 23 inste of October 22. Anything else that you re anywhere will be factually incorrect," Rai said on Tuesday.

Extended deline for conducting elections

CoA also extended deline for conducting elections of BCCI's state units by a week, to October 4. Ar CoA member Diana Edulji said while she is "against any delay in conducting BCCI elections", she understands that a day's extension is due to state polls.

"As per Supreme Court order passed on September 20, state units may be granted a few days' grace but BCCI elections should be on time. We may defer it by a day due to assembly elections in Maharashtra on 21st," former India women's captain said.

Rai was happy with outcome of Supreme Court hearing on Tuesday during which its petition seeking clarification on permission granted to Tamil Nu Cricket Association to hold elections, was mitted.

"Today, petition came up for hearing. BCCI counsel was re, TNCA counsel and amicus curiae P S Narsimha was re. I am happy with outcome," he said.  SC took cognizance of fact that some state units are misinterpreting order mischievously on 'disqualification being confined to office-bearers only. Many felt that it meant that 70-year clause ( cap), n-Indian passport holder clause have been done away with, which is t case," former CAG ded.

CoA, in its petition to apex court, has also submitted status of compliance of 38 state units of BCCI. re are 24 full members, who have registered ir respective constitutions as per CoA's approval. Three members -- Railways, Services, and Universities -- will have an authorized representative as per BCCI constitution. CoA has also informed court that seven full members have h ir constitution approved by it but have t yet submitted document. re are two members, who are in dialogue with CoA and are on ir way to compliance. According to CoA, only two members -- Haryana and Tamil Nu are "t compliant and failed to bring ir constitution in line with approved one." BCCI elections will mark an end to tenure of Supreme Court-appointed ministrators, governing Indian cricket. CoA has been ministering game since January 2017 and was mandated to implement ministrative reforms suggested by Justice (Retd) R M Lodha committee.
