BCCI official provides HUGE update on 2 additional teams in Dream11 IPL 2021

With the next edition of the IPL slated to take place in March-April 2021, BCCI provides a major update on the addition of two new teams in the tournament.

BCCI is all set and ready to gear up for next edition of Dream11 IPL. successful completion of last edition's Indian Premier League took place just a month ago as tournament was postponed from its regular March-April schedule due to coronavirus pandemic.  Dream11 IPL 2020 was finally held in United Arab Emirates and took place from September 19 to vember 10. With next edition of Indian Premier League slated to take place in March-April 2021, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is running short and lacks preparation due to time short.

Sourav Ganguly and BCCI racing against time?

With just near 4 months left before inauguration of next edition,  Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI has to decide on various aspects of tournament. India’s apex cricketing body is yet to determine dates, venues, and procedures that will be followed for same amid pandemic. Ar main question that surrounds IPL 2021 will be mega audition. Earlier reports had suggested that BCCI was likely to add 2 more teams in IPL for 2021 edition and conduct a mega auction for same. However, it's pretty likely that addition of news team will be postponed until 2022.

According to a report in InsideSport, a BCCI official confirmed that time is too short for introduction of new teams for IPL in 2021. Tendering, players auction and most importantly getting all stakeholders on same p will be really challenging in short-time span. board is of view that any addition to team should only happen for IPL 2022.

BCCI official was also mentioned how IPL’s broadcasting rights with Disney India (Star Sports and Disney+ Hotstar) is ending after conclusion of IPL 2021. He goes on to add how y should introduce new teams once that cycle ends so that y can increase values of broadcast rights and or commercial partnerships. source goes on to add about how final decision on same shall be taken in AGM and how y plan to increase teams is likely to be shelved this year.

More teams, more hassle for BCCI?

It is also worth ting that BCCI understands added pressure which y would have to handle if 2 new teams are added w. addition of 2 new teams means more matches and an increase in duration of IPL window. It could be a difficult task for m in current pandemic situation.

BCCI’s Annual General Meeting is rumored to take place on December 24. decision on addition of those 2 teams will likely be taken n. Earlier, it was reported that IPL two new teams deals could be given to eir Ahmedabad, Luckw or Kanpur.
