BCCI under further scrutiny after Ranji Trophy players do not get paid since 2020 season

As per recent reports, the BCCI is yet to roll out the promised compensation plan for the first-class cricketers for last year's cancelled domestic season.

ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has h a major impact on cricket boards. While international cricket may have resumed for national side after a brief sabbatical, domestic players in India suffered a lot after season was scrapped last year due to coronavirus situation in country.  Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) presided Sourav Ganguly h anunced to compensate cricketers for cancelled season in order to aid m during such unprecedented times. However, latest reports suggest that cricket board has still t rolled out previously anunced payments. 

BCCI yet to pay Ranji Trophy players since 2020 season 

richest cricket board has come under scanner with multiple reports of delay in payments coming out. According to a report by  Telegraph, re have been excessive delays when it comes to compensation of country's first-class cricketers. BCCI's Treasurer Arun Dhumal in his conversation with PTI revealed that state associations are yet to send proposals from ir end, and it is t possible to roll out promised payments before that.

Dhumal pointed out that y will have to discuss with states regarding players who would have featured in season. Moreover, he also mitted that board will need details like number of matches and reserve players. official stated that BCCI is yet to receive a proposal from states regarding compensation pack, which is why re has been a delay.

Considering fact that cricket is source of primary income for many domestic cricketers in India, latest developments are bound to have an effect on many such individuals. While several uncapped players did ply ir tre for 14th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), remaining first-class players could be facing difficulties as y still await ir compensation. Moreover, Rajasthan Royals pacer Chetan Sakariya h earlier revealed how his IPL 2021 salary was of great help to him as he is only brewinner for his family.

While Chetan Sakariya was fortunate eugh to win a contract with an IPL franchise, but re are a number of players who did t feature in cash-rich league. ir major source of income comes from playing domestic cricket. This indicates that several players could be in a vulnerable situation after delay in compensation, and BCCI will be keen to find a solution regarding this along with respective state associations 

same report also suggested that  Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI is yet to hand out payments of T20 World Cup 2020 that took place in Australia in February-March last year.   Indian women's cricket team, who ended up as runners-up, won a cash prize of US$ 500,000.  CEO of Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations, Tom Moffat told  Telegraph that federation h been me aware of issue in August 2020, which was n relayed to International Cricket Council (ICC). Terming act as 'unacceptable,' Moffat said that federation encours players in India to form a players' association for a collective representation in such matters.
