BCCI's key decisions at 89th AGM: 10 teams in IPL, Rajeev Shukla appointed Vice President

Apart from ratifying proposition to include 10 teams in Indian Premier League (IPL), BCCI deliberated on several or issues at 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Motera in Ahmedab on Thursday on. apex cricket body has w has released details of 7 key decisions taken during 89th AGM. se include appointment of Rajeev Shukla as Vice President of Board and increase in limit of reimbursement of insurance medical claim of retired First Class Cricketers.
Key Decisions at 89th AGM
- Electoral Officer, Mr. AK Joti anunced election of Mr. Rajeev Shukla as Vice President of BCCI. Furr, Mr. Brijesh Patel and Mr. KM Majumdar were unanimously re-elected as members representative to IPL Governing Council by General Body.
- Mr. Pragyan Ojha who was minated by Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) as a player representative, was inducted to IPL Governing Council at AGM.
- General Body authorized IPL Governing Council to include up to ten teams to Indian Premier League. IPL GC will work out modalities regarding scheduling for up to 10 teams.
- General Body also decided to seek furr clarification from ICC on ir proposal to include cricket in 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
- BCCI also increased limit of reimbursement of insurance medical claim of retired First Class Cricketers to INR 10 Lakhs.
- retirement of BCCI affiliated umpires and scorers has also been increased to 60 years.
- General Body approved disbursement of funds to ICA.

89th AGM also tabled and deliberated upon appointment of cricket committee, standing committees and umpires committee. It also authorized respective office bearers to decide on BCCI's representative to ICC Board of Directors, setting up of a new National Cricket Acemy in Bengaluru, venues for ICC T20 World Cup 2021 slated to be held in India, to decide on 2020-21 domestic season and also form a working group in order to compensate players, match officials and ors involved in cricketing activity.

10 teams in IPL from 2022
two new franchises are expected to be Luckw and Ahmedab, with latter likely to get newly inaugurated Motera Stium as its home, as per sources. With inclusion of two new franchises, IPL 2022 is also expected to witness 94 league matches inste of usual 56-matches long season. After a successful season in UAE, IPL 2022 will feature 10 teams, for which BCCI will soon float tenders inviting bidders to buy new franchises. bidding will be followed by a mega auction which will witness all 10 franchises fighting for players to build ir squs.
Previously, 2011 edition h witnessed inclusion of two new teams - Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala - taking total number of teams to 10. However, a year later, Kochi franchise was terminated and n in 2011 BCCI anunced termination of Deccan Chargers. This was followed by introduction of Hyderab franchise as a replacement and later on due to differences with BCCI, Pune franchise opted out of IPL, bringing back total number of teams to 8.

BCCI appoints Chetan Sharma as Chief Selector
Replacing Sunil Joshi, former Indian cricketer Chetan Sharma has been appointed as Chairman of Indian Selection Committee, BCCI confirmed on Thursday. Cricket visory Committee (CAC) comprising of Man Lal, RP Singh and Sulakshana Naik met virtually on Thursday to d three members to selection panel. Apart from Chetan Sharma, CAC recommended Abey Kuruvilla and Debashish Mohanty as members of selectors panel, which BCCI has approved. selection committee was previously led by Sunil Joshi, however, CAC recommended Chetan Sharma as new selector based on level of seniority.
