Ben Stokes wins PCA's Player of the Year award

England vice-captain and all-rounder, Ben Stokes, was recently rewarded with the Players' Player of the year title (Reg Hayter Cup) at the 50th Professional Cricketers Association awards in the field of cricket.
English cricket's highest individual award
The 28-year-old British national took away the highest regarded individual award in the English cricket community after a stellar performance that saw England capture their maiden ICC World Cup 2019 after which they played an exciting Ashes series against Australia that eventually resulted in a draw.

The vice-captain won the Reg Hayter Cup after he was voted by both the England team and people from country cricket. Stokes won the award by beating 3 right-handed batsmen- Ryan Higgins, Dom Sibley, and Simon Harmer.
Ben stated that he was really happy in terms of winning the prestigious award and thanked everyone who thought he was worthy of something so great.

He added that even though it was an individual award, the credit goes to the entire team as cricket is a team sport and further said that with the 2019 world cup in their bag and a spectacular Ashes series against Australia is something that made him really proud.

County Club, Somerset's wicketkeeper and right-handed batsman, Tom Banton, won the Professional Cricketers Association's young player of the year. Also, Sophie Ecclestone, a bowler for the England women's team, bagged the best female player award.
The event had lined up other awards such as the ODI player, Test player, and the County Championship award. The ODI player award was won by Chris Woakes with the best Test player award going to Stuart Broad and County Championship Player was won by Simon Hamer.

A stellar career
Ben Stokes made his senior debut for the English cricket team against Ireland in the year 2011. He also holds the record for England's fastest double-century of 250 runs in a Test match alongside the title of being a middle-order test batsman scoring a double century.
Stokes holds the record of being the highest-paid overseas batsman in the 2017 edition of the IPL with a price tag of 145 million rupees. He also won the award for the most valuable player during the same IPL season.
