Big boost for India as Pakistan penalised in WTC points table after Perth Test against Australia

Pakistan were dealt a massive blow as they have been handed a massive penalty for maintaining a slow over rate in their brutal loss against Australia in the first Test at Perth. The Pakistan team have been docked two World Test Championship points. to make things worse, all the Pakistan players have also been fined ten per cent of their match fees.

Pakistan dealt a major blow as they lose the top spot in the ICC rankings

The Pat Cummins led Australia inflicted an embarrassing defeat on the visitors who failed to show any kind of restraint. They were found two overs short of the designated overs that they needed to pull through in the first Test. In reply to the home side's massive target of 450, they were bundled out for a paltry 89 leaving them on the brink of an impossible task in the remaining two Test matches.

A statement from the ICC confirmed the above development. 

"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

"In addition, as per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short. Consequently, two World Test Championship points have been deducted from Pakistan’s points total.

"The Emirates ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Javagal Srinath imposed the sanctions after Pakistan were found two overs short after taking time allowances into consideration.

“The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Joel Wilson and Richard Illingworth, third umpire Michael Gough and fourth umpire Donovan Koch and Shan Masood, the Pakistan captain, plead guilty to the offence, accepting the given sanctions.”

India replace Pakistan at the top of the WTC points table

India have now leapfrogged Pakistan to the first place in the WTC table as Shaheen Shah Afridi's side is now placed second with 22 points. It remains to be seen how things unfold in the near future. The second Test will now start on Boxing Day in Melbourne.
