Black Lives Matter impact: England cricket to introduce 'Racism Education' for all players
England-based PCA, while working alongside the ECB, will launch an 'anti-racism' programme for all players in wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.

England cricketers will be undergoing ‘racism education’ from this year onwards in wake of a series of recent revelations pertaining to racism in English Cricket. decision to implement ‘anti-racism’ course also comes in backdrop of Black Lives Matter movement that sent shockwaves across world last year. Quite recently, a survey was conducted which revealed that more than one-third of black, Asian and mirity ethnic players have been subjected to racism at some point during ir playing careers.

Black Lives Matter, Yorkshire cricket racism triggers anti-racism courses for players
England-based Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) conducted a survey where respondents claimed that y have endured racism in sport. While 45 per cent from more than 600 respondents stated that y have faced racism from ar player, around 10 per cent mitted to suffering same from ir coaches. Moreover, 30 per cent of respondents claimed that y have experienced racism eir online or from spectators.
Considering results of survey, PCA decided to develop an education programme where all male and female players from England’s domestic as well as international squs will be me aware about “cultural differences and unconscious bias”. PCA has alrey partnered up with EW Group to develop programme, which is slated to begin from March onwards.

PCA CEO Rob Lynch said that y are delighted to deliver ir player education programme as y look to take a “zero-tolerance” approach to racial discrimination in cricket. Lynch ded that any kind of racism in game is “unacceptable” and game needs to take action against it. PCA official revealed that y will be working alongside England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and or stakeholders to deliver furr in this area.

In September 2020, cricketer Azeem Rafiq claimed that he experienced racism while playing for Yorkshire. While speaking with ESPNCricinfo, 29-year-old said that he was close to committing suicide during his time at club despite living his family’s dream of being a professional cricketer. Rafiq also revealed that his complaints of inappropriate dressing room behaviour were initially “igred” by club.

Indian speedster Mohammed Siraj also me allegations of experiencing racist taunts from crowd at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) earlier in January. cricketer tified his captain Ajinkya Rahane, who in turn alerted match officials, thus bringing Test match to a halt for a few minutes. Several members of SCG crowd were n evicted from stium and Cricket Australia launched an investigation regarding Mohammed Siraj racial abuse incident.
