Freiburg hosted Frankfurt, with the visitors already down to 10 men. Gelson Fernandes had been sent off earlier in the first-half stoppage time. The extra-ordinary scenes at the Schwarzwald-Stadion are likely to lead to significant disciplinary action.

Freiburg were leading 1-0 when the ball went out of play in the injury time. Streich let the ball go by while Abraham was trying to recover it. The captain then bundled the opponent coach over with a shoulder as he ran past him. Upset Freiburg players and staff were furious over Abraham’s reaction and then chased the defender on to the field, leading to a situation of chaos.

Abraham apologised to Streich
After having a look at the clash with VAR, match referee Felix Brych also sent off Freiburg player Vincenzo Grifo, who had reacted from his position on the substitute’s bench. Abraham is likely to face stiff actions for his behaviour, with the suspension being on the cards. Streich told to a section of media that Abraham had apologised to him after the match and the coach believed that the issue was over.
Streich said that football is a contact sport. He believes that it was a heated game, and that they needed to calm down, and not have a silly talk about it now. He went on to comment that at the age of 54, he could be run over by a young buffalo, and that he can’t hold himself against it any more. After their dramatic win, Freiburg are now fourth in the league table, while a loss for Frankfurt means that they are now ninth in the Bundesliga.
