Canada's Tariq found guilty for provocative action in WC qualifier

Canada's wicketkeeper Hamza Tariq received an official warning and one demerit point after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct

Canada's wicketkeeper-batsman Hamza Tariq received an official warning and one demerit point after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for players on Sunday.  Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player's match fee, and one or two demerit points. However, Tariq who guilty as charged admitted the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel of match referees and no need for a formal hearing was further required.

Violation of Article 2.5 of the Code

During the qualifier match against Jersey in Abu Dhabi Tariq was found to have violated Article 2.5 of the Code, which relates to 'using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an international match'.The incident took place after wicketkeeper Tariq abused dismissed batsman Nick Greenwood, which according to the on-field umpires, could have provoked a reaction from the Jersey player. The on-field umpires Lyndon Hannibal and Rashid Riaz, and reserve umpire Sam Nogajski leveled the charge.

ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier

Canada will go head to head against Nigeria in the 18th match of the ICC men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers 2019 in Group B at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Canada are placed in the second position of the table with two points. They have played only a single match so far, registering a 53 run win against Jersey. Meanwhile, Nigeria are placed in the bottom position losing the one match they played against Jersey. The qualifiers of the T20 World Cup to be played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium and Dubai International Stadium will be live-streamed on Hotstar. The matches will also be telecasted live on Star Sports Network. The highlights of the matches played at other venues will also be available on the official T20 World Cup website and its social media handles. The match starts at 9:00 PM IST.
