Both Kuldeep and Chahal, who h cemented ir place in two shorter formats with impressive performances over past 24 months, have t been picked for two straight T20I series, including ongoing home assignment against South Africa. Ahe of opening T20I in Dharamsala, captain Virat Kohli said team is trying out likes of Rahul Chahar and Washington Sundar as it is looking to bat deep and post 200 plus totals consistently. Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels decision to exclude Kuldeep and Chahal could be a double-edged sword. " idea is if you have that much depth in batting you bat a certain way. You can't bat conservatively if you have that kind of depth. That is what England did. y changed template completely. y focused on batting deep as y wanted to score 400 (in ODIs) and y achieved it many times," Chopra told PTI. "It looks India is wanting to take same aggressive approach in T20Is and re is thing wrong in that. w, y need to start showing intent of scoring 220 consistently."Batting till 8, 9 and 10 is still ambitious (as you don't need m at all in a 20 over game) but if you are trying to score 220 it is fine," he explained. Chopra felt if team decides to compromise on its wicket-taking ability, n it to score more. However, he foresees Chahal making a T20 come back very soon. Chahal, at moment, is only part of ODI team while Kuldeep is part of both 50-over and Test squs though t a sure starter in eleven.

"Chahal will be back. Rahul Chahar is more or a bowler and Washington Sundar's batting at number 8 may t be needed anyway," Chopra ded.

Kuldeep and Chahal's inclusion broke Ashwin-Jeja combination

Kuldeep and Chahal's exclusion has become a talking point just like finger spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jeja, who were shown door in shorter formats following 2017 Champions Trophy. Jeja me a comeback but Ashwin couldn't. Former India spinner Sunil Joshi, who is w a well-kwn spin coach, welcomed move to try out youngsters before cautioning against confusion that  situation might create for  spinners."I would suggest that Kuldeep and Chahal should go back to domestic cricket when y are t on national duty. Finger spinner or wrist spinner is t question here. It is about having tactics to outclass batsman besides technique and temperament," Joshi told PTI. "Let's see how young spinners do and ample opportunities should be given to m but at same time if Chahal and Kuldeep are playing only one format it could disturb ir rhythm. White ball cricket is all about rhythm." conditions will be different in Australia for T20 World Cup with bigger grounds. Overspin will come in handy. All spinners who are in hunt should be told about ir roles clearly else it might cause confusion in ir minds," Joshi ded.
