IPL Retention 2024: MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings are pretty synonymous to each other. MS Dhoni is always seen as the leading man of the magnum opus that is called the Indian Premier League. before the IPL retentions and mega auctions, there is a lot of suspense around MS Dhoni's future in the cash-rich league and with the franchise. There are rumours floating that Chennai Super Kings might retain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player but there has been no official word on it yet.

CSK Tease Fans With A Throwback MS Dhoni Post

Chennai Super Kings has always been known for MS Dhoni. As a matter of fact, the city of Chennai has also adopted MS Dhoni as their own. The seventeenth IPL season in many ways was seen as MSD's last. He also stepped down from his leadership duties and passed the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad , but it is being believed that MS Dhoni will be returning for one  more season and will be retained by CSK as an uncapped player.

The salary cap for an uncapped player is INR 4 crores, which means that MS Dhoni will have to take a pay cut of more than 60% if he continues to play in the iconic Chennai yellow. Much ahead of the IPL retentions, Chennai Super Kings have posted a throwback MS Dhoni post, his immortal innings of 183* which he played against Sri Lanka in 2005.

The IPL Retention Rules

Every IPL franchise will have a purse of INR 120 crores. But the BCCI has played around a bit with the retention rules. Every franchise will be eligible for six retentions, which includes the Right To Match Card too. Five retentions will cost each franchise INR 75 crores and will leave them with just INR 45 crores for the mega auctions.
