Coronavirus: Pakistan cricket financially well off for 12-14 months despite PSL suspension

As a result, cricket boards across world are expected to post varied amount of losses this year. With PSL 2020 (Pakistan Super League) being postponed indefinitely, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was expected to suffer most. Here is actual impact that tournament will have on board's coffers.

How coronavirus affected Pakistan cricket after PSL suspension

sudden outbreak of COVID-19 resulted in PSL suspension as Pakistan cricket board could t risk harming any of its personnel. Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board had predicted that it would remain profitable despite PSL semi-finals and finals being cancelled. However, it is w being revealed that PCB has incurred some losses.

According to a report by a leading Indian sports portal, it was revealed that PCB has lost almost 200 million Pakistani rupees (PKR) due to cancellation of remaining PSL and cancellation of upcoming Bangladesh tour of Pakistan has furr resulted in losses of roughly 630 million Pakistani rupees.

total loses can be estimated at upto 800 million Pakistani rupees (₹38 crore or ₹380 million). only immediate losses that have been suffered by PCB are gate receipts from closed-door PSL matches, ticket sales for cancelled games and profits from Bangladesh tour of Pakistan. PCB is still hoping to financially survive over next year and hopes to turn things around by end of year. Pakistan Cricket Board's losses have also been mitigated as ir broadcasting and kit deals were just about to run out.

Why was PSL cancelled? reason behind PSL suspension

PSL 2020 came to a very sudden halt prior to  semi-finals. decision was taken by PCB after a player had shown symptoms of vel coronavirus. Soon eugh, tests were done on all personnel involved in league and all tests came back negative. PSL 2020 will w be completed when risks for spreading of COVID-19 have subsided.
