Injuries are part and parcel of game, however, same cant be said about ‘self-inflicted’ injuries. Just recently we heard about South African opening batsman Aiden Markram being ruled out of third Test against India due to a fracture in his wrist bones. His injury was a self-inflicted one as he lashed out at a solid object in frustration after his dismissal. incident occurred just few days after Australia’s Mitchell Marsh was involved in a similar incident as he fractured his right-hand finger while punching  dressing room wall.

On backdrop of recent injuries, let’s take a look at 5 famous cricketers with self-inflicted injuries from past.

1. Jason Roy

England opening batsman was forced to sit out for a match during 2018’s T20 Blast tournament. After his dismissal in a game against Hampshire, right-handed batsman threw his bat in frustration which bounced back and struck his face.

2. Quinton de Kock

South African wicketkeeper-batsman was ruled out of playing XI for third Test against England in 2016. Before match, de Kock injured his knee as he fell down while walking his dogs. He was replaced by Dane Vilas who arrived at venue an hour after game commenced.

3. Jimmy ams

Before West Indies tour of South Africa in 1998-99 could even begin, one of primary mainstay of ir batting line-up, Jimmy ams, injured his hand while cutting a bre roll. incident occurred on ir flight to Johannesburg. tour went ahe but visitors lost series 5-0.

4. Ben Stokes

England’s star all-rounder, Ben Stokes broke his hand while dishing out his frustration on a dressing room locker. His injury ruled him out of World T20 in Banglesh where England lost three out of ir four Super 10 matches.

5. George Garton

George Garton was originally selected in England Lions’ squ that toured West Indies in 2018. While he was racing against time to catch connecting flight from Los Angeles, he suffered a side strain which resulted in him missing  entire tour. He also h to miss out on majority of following English domestic season.
