Gautam Gambhir issues stern warning to the players after India vs Sri Lanka T20I series win

Following India's 3-0 series sweep against Sri Lanka, Coach Gautam Gambhir gave an inspirational speech in the dressing room at Pallekele, secured by a Super Over victory in the last match. India tied the game at 137 for 8 and won the tiebreaker even though they had a low target of 138. With particular praise for Suryakumar Yadav's superb captaincy, Gambhir praised the squad for their hard-earned series victory. In a video uploaded by BCCI, Gautam Gambhir said:

"Outstanding captaincy and more important as well because I asked for something before the start of the game and you actually delivered it. This is what happens when you keep fighting. You don't give up,"

Emphasising the need of resilience and ongoing development, the Indian coach advised the players to quickly evaluate events and adjust to different circumstances. Gambhir also advised players not to engage in the forthcoming 50-over style to make the most use of their a break. He added:

"Some of the players who won't be part of the 50 over format will have a longer break so make sure when you come back for the Bangladesh series, keep your skills & fitness level high - you don't want to come for that series thinking, okay, I can just turn up & probably deliver for the team - so make sure fitness levels are right up there".

Suryakumar Yadav played a pivotal part in India's triumph over Sri Lanka. Despite his low score of eight runs, his astute choice to entrust the ball to Rinku Singh during the last two overs, when Sri Lanka need nine runs, had a significant impact.

Rinku Singh achieved a remarkable feat in his first T20I over by taking two wickets and only allowing three runs to be scored. Subsequently, Surya assumed the task of delivering the last over himself. Surprisingly, it was his debut over in T20I cricket, during which he conceded a mere five runs and dismissed Maheesh Theekshana and Kamindu Mendis.

In the subsequent Super Over, Sri Lanka could only accumulate a total of two runs. Yadav subsequently struck a boundary on the initial delivery, therefore ensuring victory for India.
