Emily Smith shares Hobart Hurricanes' playing XI online, slapped with 3-month ban

Hobart Hurricanes' women's wicket-keeper Emily Smith has been banned by Cricket Australia for sharing the playing XI of the match against Sixers on Instagram.

Hobart Hurricanes’ Emily Smith has been banned for 3 months after breaching Cricket Australia's Anti-Corruption Code on Monday. 24-year-old posted line-up on her Instagram account an hour before scheduled and permitted official release of same. Australian has been handed a ban for 3 months, with 9 months of her ban suspended.

Emily Smith banned for sharing playing XI on Instagram

Hobart Hurricanes Women were all set to take on Sydney Thunder Women in Women’s Big Bash League on Saturday, 2nd vember. Emily Smith, who is wicketkeeper for Hobart Hurricanes Women, posted her team's line-up for match on her Instagram account. match was abandoned due to b wear.

Emily Smith accepted charges imposed on her which means that she will miss remainder of Women’s Big Bash League for Hobart Hurricanes. She will also miss out on Women’s National Cricket League. Cricket Australia’s He of Integrity and Security Sean Carroll said that Emily Smith did t intend to breach code and players were aware of obligations.

"CA's rigorous anti-corruption player education program means that players are well aware of ir obligations under Anti-Corruption Code and re is excuse for breaches regardless of reasons for information being disclosed," Carroll said on Cricket Australia website.

Carroll furr ded, "Since commencement of WBBL, Cricket Australia has h in place a robust anti-corruption program. We have been working with Emily throughout process and Emily w understands mistake she me. Unfortunately, in this instance, Emily's actions breached Anti-Corruption Code. We hope this serves as a reminder to all that Anti-Corruption Code is critical to protecting integrity of game.”  

Hobart Hurricanes sign Mannix-Geeves as Emily Smith replacement

Following Emily Smith’s suspension, Hobart Hurricanes Women have signed Tasmanian Tigers wicket-keeper Emma Mannix-Geeves under special circumstances. Mannix-Geeves has signed for Hurricanes until end of season. Hobart Hurricanes have struggled in Women’s Big Bash League so far, collecting a meagre 5 points in 9 matches played.
