Emily Smith shares Hobart Hurricanes' playing XI online, slapped with 3-month ban
Hobart Hurricanes' women's wicket-keeper Emily Smith has been banned by Cricket Australia for sharing the playing XI of the match against Sixers on Instagram.

Hobart Hurricanes’ Emily Smith has been banned for 3 months after breaching the Cricket Australia's Anti-Corruption Code on Monday. The 24-year-old posted the line-up on her Instagram account an hour before the scheduled and permitted official release of the same. The Australian has been handed a ban for 3 months, with 9 months of her ban suspended.

Emily Smith banned for sharing playing XI on Instagram
The Hobart Hurricanes Women were all set to take on the Sydney Thunder Women in the Women’s Big Bash League on Saturday, 2nd November. Emily Smith, who is the wicketkeeper for the Hobart Hurricanes Women, posted her team's line-up for the match on her Instagram account. The match was abandoned due to bad weather.
Emily Smith accepted the charges imposed on her which means that she will miss the remainder of the Women’s Big Bash League for the Hobart Hurricanes. She will also miss out on the Women’s National Cricket League. Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity and Security Sean Carroll said that Emily Smith did not intend to breach the code and the players were aware of the obligations.

"CA's rigorous anti-corruption player education program means that players are well aware of their obligations under the Anti-Corruption Code and there is no excuse for breaches regardless of the reasons for information being disclosed," Carroll said on the Cricket Australia website.

Carroll further added, "Since the commencement of the WBBL, Cricket Australia has had in place a robust anti-corruption program. We have been working with Emily throughout the process and Emily now understands the mistake she made. Unfortunately, in this instance, Emily's actions breached the Anti-Corruption Code. We hope this serves as a reminder to all that the Anti-Corruption Code is critical to protecting the integrity of the game.”

Hobart Hurricanes sign Mannix-Geeves as Emily Smith replacement
Following Emily Smith’s suspension, Hobart Hurricanes Women have signed Tasmanian Tigers wicket-keeper Emma Mannix-Geeves under special circumstances. Mannix-Geeves has signed for the Hurricanes until the end of the season. The Hobart Hurricanes have struggled in the Women’s Big Bash League so far, collecting a meagre 5 points in 9 matches played.
