England name Darren Gough as interim bowling coach

England’s head coach Chris Silverwood said that he was excited to have the former English seamer on board. Silverwood said that he has known Darren Gough for a long time and his experience with the England cricket team will only drive the bowling unit forward.

In response to Silverwood’s statement, Darren Gough said that it is a ‘tremendous honour’ for him to be asked by the management to lead the English bowling attack. Gough also said that he is looking forward to this opportunity of working with the English bowlers.

Darren Gough made his international debut in an ODI match against New Zealand in 1994 and made his appearance for England against Pakistan in 2006. In his 12-year international career, the right-arm pacer played 58 Test matches for the country. With 229 wickets in the longest format, he is tenth on the all-time list of highest wicket-takers by England’s fast bowlers. He also played 159 ODIs and two T20Is for the country, scalping 235 and 3 wickets respectively in both formats. His ODI record is even more impressive as the retired bowler is only behind James Anderson in terms of ODI wicket-takers for England.
