Team India will face their biggest challenge while Down Under when they face Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy Series. This year, the hosts will be determined to win the title after the Men in Blue have retained the title in the past encounter. With India facing hostile conditions this year, it will be arduous for the side. But ahead of the series, a former cricketer has slammed Gautam Gambhir's strategy as the team head into the red-ball series.
Former India Star Slams Gautam Gambhir's Strategy Of ‘Fast-tracking’ IPL star to BGT Series
For the Border Gavaskar Trophy Series, Team India elected some young arsenal in the main squad, who are expected to face Australia in the red-ball series. The fans may witness the debut of pacer Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in Perth against the reigning WTC Champions, Australia. Reddy's debut has been fast-tracked as India battles injuries and the absence of Rohit Sharma from the 1st test. But former India Cricketer Dodda Ganesh was not fascinated with head coach Gautam Gambhir's plan of action regarding Nitish Kumar Reddy for the upcoming test series. The former cricketer dismissed the potential move, believing Nitish Reddy was still unprepared for the longer format of the game.
"Either pick a genuine bowler, or go with a genuine batter if you feel the batting needs to be bolstered. This fast-tracking of Nitish Reddy for tests serves no purpose. He is still undercooked to be playing the longer format," Dodda Ganesh tweeted on 'X' [Formerly known as Twitter].
Nitish Kumar Reddy impressed in his India T20I debut against Bangladesh after he scored a half-century and picked up three wickets. After being named for the Australia tour, the all-rounder was sent Down Under for early preparations in unofficial tests against Australia A. Reddy failed to make an impact in the series after scoring 71 runs throughout four innings and picking just one wicket. Despite an underwhelming performance, Nitish Kumar Reddy seems to be on track for a debut in the Perth Test at the Optus Stadium.
