On Friday, Team India began their T20I series against Ireland at the Village Stadium. India won the first match of the series by 2 runs after the game was put off due to rain and the victory was determined using the DLS technique. The Jasprit Bumrah-led team won the toss and had elected to bowl. On Sunday, they will seek to extend their lead to 2-0 over the hosts.

3 things you need to know

  • The Indian team made 47 runs in 6.5 overs before the weather postponement, losing two wickets

IND vs IRE: Aakash Chopra makes a huge statement about Arshdeep Singh

Renowned cricket analyst Aakash Chopra has highlighted Arshdeep Singh's recent lack of consistency, emphasising his expectations for the left-arm seamer. Arshdeep's performance in the recent match against Ireland in Malahide, Dublin, on August 18, yielded figures of 1/35 in four overs. This in many ways led to India's two-run triumph via the DLS method. However, it was Arshdeep's 22-run outing in the final over of Ireland's innings that raised eyebrows, perhaps jeopardising the outcome.

Chopra delves into the subtleties of the Indian bowling unit in a video posted to his YouTube account ahead of the second T20I, which is slated for August 20 at the same site. Due to Arshdeep's lack of consistency, he thought about how important consistency is in the competitive world of cricket.

Arshdeep - it's interesting that we are seeing a lot of ups and downs. He was unfortunately not used that well in the IPL and after that, he has been trying to find his rhythm intermittently. He bowls a lot of wides and at times the ball doesn't get pitched at the right spot. He proved expensive in the last two overs in the last match. So I am personally expecting a lot more from Arshdeep Singh. Bumrah, Arshdeep, Prasidh Krishna, Ravi Bishnoi - these four bowlers will pick up the majority of the wickets today also because these four bowlers have very good qualities.

Chopra's insights emphasised the importance of Arshdeep Singh's role in the team and the need for him to improve his performance in order to satisfy the team's expectations.
