Faf opened batting along with former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson after MS Dhoni h won toss and decided to bat first. duo stitched in a 56 run opening stand before Watson was dismissed for 26 in eighth over. Faf continued to pile on runs and bought up his 10th half-century.

South African skipper scored a blistering 38-ball 54 at a strike rate of 142.11 which included two boundaries and four maximums. CSK got to a competitive 160/3 after finishing touches from MS Dhoni (37) and Ambati Rayu (21).
