Former Indian Cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad Passes Away After Battle With Blood Cancer

Indian Cricket great Anshuman Gaekwad has passed away at the age of 71 after a long battle with Blood Cancer. Anshuman Gaekwad is considered to be a legend of Indian Cricket who represented India in 40 test matches and 15 ODIs during his Indian Cricket Team career which lasted from 1975 to 1987. 

Anshuman Gaekwad was in critical condition as he was battling final stage of Lung Cancer. Earlier in the month, India's former Kapil Dev and 1983 World Cup hero Sandeep Patil had requested BCCI to step in and aid the former cricketer and coach in his battle with Blood Cancer. BCCI had agreed to come to aid of Anshuman Gaekwad as in a statement secretary Jay Shah had released INR 1 Crore for the veteran cricketer. 

Anshuman Gaekwad's Illustrious Tenure with India 

Anshuman Gaekwad in his 40 Tests and 15 ODIs scored 2,254 runs for India. He scored 1985 runs in his Test Career with a high score of 201 against Pakistan.

After his retirement from Cricket, Anshuman Gaekwad entered into coaching and took over as the coach of Indian Cricket Team in 1997. He was the head coach of Indian Cricket Team in 1997. 

His tenure as head coach of Indian cricket lasted for 2 years as he was the coach from 1997 ti 1999. Under his tenure Indian Cricket went through a tumultous time in terms of captaincy as it saw the likes of Mohammad Azharuddin, Saurav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar all swap places as captain.
