New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir, on July 9, 2024 succeeded Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of Team India. Rahul Dravid's coaching tenure ended after the India vs South Africa ICC Men's T20 World Cup Finals. The 'men in blue' will be very proud of their campaign as they not only lifted the trophy, but went on and won the tournament undefeated. This was India's second T20I World Cup win across nine different editions.
The Gautam Gambhir Era Begins For Team India
Ever since Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications for the post of Team India Head Coach, Gambhir's name had been linked to it. Many believe that National Cricket Academy (NCA) director VVS Laxman was the first choice for the role, but once he backed off, it was always Gambhir's name that was attached to this prestigious role.

Rahul Dravid, before the end of his tenure has left Indian cricket in a very better place as compared to time when he took the job up. India crashed out of the group stage of the 2021 T20 World Cup before Dravid was announced as the Head Coach of India, but before his tenure completed, the former India captain made sure that the 'Men in Blue' win the T20 World Cup.
'India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. I’m honoured to be back, albeit wearing a different hat. But my goal is the same as it has always been, to make every Indian proud', wrote Gambhir in his social media post.
