Gautam Gambhir foundation to look after 100 kids of martyred soldiers

Former India cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir through his foundation (Gautam Gambhir Foundation) has decided to take care of "100 children of martyred soldiers." The announcement of the same was done by him via Twitter. Gautam Gambhir Foundation, which is based out of New Delhi, is a charitable organisation that primarily supports the children of martyred soldiers.

"Making these angels smile is one of the biggest achievements of my life. Congratulations to GG Foundation! Proud to share that we will be taking care of 100 children of martyrs. Their fathers sacrificed their lives for our nation and now its our turn to show how grateful we are!" he tweeted on Sunday.

Gautam Gambhir's decorated career

The former left-handed opener retired from all forms of cricket in December 2018. He has a decorated career in which he won some top honours, which included the World T20 in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The 37-year-old former top-order batsman featured in 147 ODIs, 58 Test matches and 37 T20s for India and scored more than 9,000 runs across all formats. He was the highest run-scorer in the 2011 World Cup final match against Sri Lanka and played match-winning innings of 97 runs to help India lift the trophy after a gap of 28 years.

Entering politics

After his retirement, he has entered politics and emerged victorious in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections which he contested on a BJP ticket from East Delhi. He was pitted against Congress' Arvinder Singh Lovely and Atishi Marlena of AAP.

Along with politics, he has since also taken the role of an expert for various cricket series, including the 2019 ICC World Cup in England and the ongoing Test series between India and South Africa.
