Glenn Maxwell: 3 players who took a break due to poor mental health

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will be taking an indefinite break from cricket. According to a statement made by Cricket Australia, the cricketer has been experiencing some mental health issues. Initially, Maxwell was due to play the upcoming third T20I against Sri Lanka in Melbourne on Friday, November 1. But instead, the 31-year old will now be stepping away from the field for a while.

Jonathan Trott

During his playing days, Jonathan Trott was one of the mainstays of the English batting order. He represented England in 52 Tests, scoring 3,835 runs at an average of 44.08. Even though the right-hander was known to be a red-ball specialist, the cricketer still boasted an impressive average of 51.25 in the ODI format. Initially selected to tour Australia for the 2013-14 Ashes series, Trott played the first Test at The Gabba and was dismissed by Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson in both innings. The cricketer pulled out of the remainder of that tour due to a stress-related illness.

Marcus Trescothick

The cricketer was initially part of the English squad that toured India for three Test matches in the start of 2006. The opening batsman, however, abruptly flew back home without divulging many details. The 76-Test veteran later revealed that he wanted to deal with depression during his time off the field. One of the finest opening batsmen ever to play for England, Trescothick later announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket.

Shaun Tait

Former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait made a cut into the playing XI against India during the controversial Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in 2007-08. He replaced Brad Hogg for the third Test to become a part of Australia's four-pronged pace attack at the WACA. Tait went wicket-less in both the innings of the match and proved out to be expensive with his bowling figures. A few days later, the cricketer decided to take an indefinite break from the game. Tait cited that he was physically and emotionally exhausted.
