Glenn Maxwell takes an indefinite break from cricket due to mental issues as confirmed by Cricket Australia. D'Arcy Short will replace him for the final T20I.

Australian hard-hitting batsman Glenn Maxwell has decided to take an indefinite break from the game because of mental health issues as confirmed by Cricket Australia.

Maxwell was back at his best as he scored a quick 62 against Sri Lanka in the first T20I in Adelaide which ensured Australia posted a massive total and won the match comprehensively. Australia have already taken an indisputable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Maxwell will not feature in the final T20 game. D'Arcy Short has been named his replacement and will join the squad on Friday.

Cricket Australia Team Psychologist Dr Michael Lloyd said that Maxwell had been experiencing some difficulties with regards to his mental health. As a result, he was going to spend some time away from the game. He added that Maxwell was proactive in identifying these issues and engaging with support staff.

Maxwell's decision was met with a lot of sensitivity from the Cricket Board, as Ben Oliver who is executive general manager of the Australian team said that the well-being of the players and staff was paramount.

Oliver said that the well-being of the players and staff was of utmost importance and extended the Board's support to him. He went on to say that Cricket Australia was going to work collaboratively with Cricket Victoria's support staff to ensure Glenn's well-being and his reintegration into the game. He urged everyone to give Glenn, his family and friends space and requested them to respect their privacy.

Oliver added that Maxwell was a special player and an important part of the Australian cricket family and he wanted to see him back in the team during the summer.
