Not only as a champion batsman for India, Shubman Gill has been seen as the future captain of the Indian cricket team and is already being groomed in that direction. Gill has been handed a leadership role in Team India at the age of 24. While he has undisputedly cemented his place in the ODI format, he has surprisingly been uplifted as the vice-captain of India in both the white ball formats. Gill's performance in the T20Is has often come under the scanner and the most recent example of the sort is the freshly concluded series against Zimbabwe. Despite scoring the most runs in the 5-match series against Zimbabwe, the youngster faced backlash for being inconsistent and not displaying attacking intent at times.

Is Shubman Gill an opener or a No.3 batter?
As Shubman Gill is certain to stay in the mainstream image of Team India's batting, questions are often raised regarding what should be his ideal batting position in the team. Although he's been batting as an opener for the longest time, his approach often comes identical to a no.3 batter. To mull over this subject we sought the opinion of an expert and a former India player did address our query.
During a virtual media session hosted by Sony Sports Network, former India player Pragyan Ojha came to the fore to answer the media's questions. Pragyan Ojha responded to Republicworld.com's question on Shubman Gill's ideal batting position.

Pragyan explained that there is no difference when it comes to the No.1 or No.3 position but highlighted that the biggest challenge for Shubman would be to live up to the expectations of the fans.
"I think number 3 and opener, it's not a big difference I would say when you look at the way cricket has changed. How well he adapts to the expectation would be a big challenge for him because now people don't look at him as a youngster, now they look at him as a future leader, they look at him as the vice-captain of the country. So, I think how well he understands that and how well he carries that responsibility would determine, how successful he's going to be. We know how skillful he is what he can do in red-ball cricket, what he can do in white-ball cricket, it is up to him how he takes up the responsibility and handles the pressure."
