It’s tough to keep the ‘Universe Boss’ away from the spotlight, he has successfully garnered attention once again as he said that he might rethink his decision of calling it a day. Before the World Cup began, Christoper Henry Gayle had said that he would retire after playing the World Cup in England and Wales. However, in a media briefing preceding the match against India he put out a statement where he confessed that he changed his mind and that he will be available for the home series against India in August. Now, courtesy to another change of heart, in a recent interview he said that he said that he will play cricket for his team for as long as possible.
In an interview he said that he has been thinking about his plans after the World Cup for a while now, He was encouraged to stay after West Indies skipper Jason Holder told him that his presence in the dressing room during the series against India would mean a lot to the team.
The 39-year-old left-handed batsman added that he is willing to carry on for as long as possible. He added that he has realised that his presence in the team is valuable for the youngsters in the side and he is willing to help them and pass down his experience. Gayle believes that he has a lot of cricket left in him and he wants to give is all to the team. He thinks he is batting alright but has become a little slow in the field but mockingly adds that someone has to move slowly in the field.
Before the league game against India, Gayle in a press conference said that he will play a Test and ODIs at home next month.
"It's still not the end. I still have a few games to go. Maybe another series to go, as well. Who knows, we will see what happens. My plans after the World Cup? I may play a Test match against India and then I will definitely play the ODIs against India. I won't play the T20s. That's my plan after the World Cup," Gayle told reporters.
Gayle is playing the ongoing World Cup match against Afghanistan which is the last league game for the West Indies. Fans will have to wait and see what Gayle does next.
