IND vs WI: Yuzvendra Chahal appeared in the last over after heavy confusion

During the first T20I between India and the West Indies at Tarouba's Brian Lara Stadium, a major misunderstanding occurred in the final over of India's chase. When Kuldeep Yadav was out on the first ball of the 20th over, the side needed 10 runs from 5 balls with two wickets remaining. Arshdeep Singh, who had been instrumental in the previous over, was on the non-striker's end.

Yuzvendra Chahal came out to bat while Kuldeep walked back to the pavilion, only to be stunned by the orders from coach Rahul Dravid and captain Hardik Pandya. They expected to bat at No. 10 with Mukesh Kumar, not Chahal. Chahal, confused by the uproar from the dugout, returned to the dressing room, enabling Mukesh to take his place.

A batsman cannot be substituted once he steps onto the pitch after a wicket falls, according to the rules of the game. As a result, Chahal had to rush back to the crease. Despite scoring a single off his first ball, Arshdeep was unable to locate the boundaries and was eventually run out on the penultimate ball, leaving Mukesh to face the final ball, which required a six to win. Unfortunately, Mukesh could only muster a single, and the West Indies won by four runs, taking a 1-0 series lead.

The West Indies batted first after winning the toss, and opener Brandon King got off to a quick start, scoring 28 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal, who came on in the fifth over, had an immediate impact, dismissing both King and Kyle Mayers in the same over. Nicholas Pooran scored 41 runs off 34 balls, while captain Rovman Powell contributed 48 runs to assist the West Indies set a competitive total of 149 runs. India's Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh stood out for their efforts.

In pursuit of the target, India endured difficulties with wickets in the beginning, as Shubman Gill (3) and Ishan Kishan (6) both went early. Suryakumar Yadav fought hard to score 21 runs off 21 balls. Tilak Varma, a debutant, was the star performer, scoring 39 runs off 22 balls before being bowled out in the 11th over. In the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya struggled to lead the side in the opening T20 encounter.
