HC issues notice to India skipper Virat Kohli over plea seeking ban on online betting

Pertinently, Team India captain is brand ambassor of Mobile Premier League (MPL) - an e-sports platform - whereas Tamannaah Bhatia is a part of company's vertisements.
petition filed by Pauly Vkkan states that online games are 'against law' and 'difficult to control'. It also alleges that certain platforms use celebrities and ir influence to attract youth and trap m financially. Kerala High Court has also sought state government's stand on matter.

Mras HC issues tice to Kohli, Ganguly
tably, in vember last year, Mras High Court h issued similar tices to Virat Kohli and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly amongst ors for promoting online fantasy league apps. In plea filed with Mras HC n, petitioner h alleged that online gaming has verse effects on children and its diction can also slow down brain growth. Furrmore, plea has also alleged that online gambling is 'plunging' Indians into penury and forcing people to commit suicide.

petitioner h sought an order of interim direction to ensure that online games 'safeguard' Indian youth from unwanted cybercrime, cyberbullying and social media network. Moreover, it urged court to order a detailed probe in matter and consequently ban 'online games, erred groups, website and social network'.

Earlier on October 16, 2020, Rajasthan High Court h dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against Dream11 Fantasy Private Limited, alleging that game being played online is thing but 'betting' on cricket team. On contrary, Gujarat High court h observed that present legal framework regarding gambling should be regulated to include virtual/cyber gambling. Bench of Chief Justice Vikram Nath and Justice JB Pardiwala h directed Gujarat state government to consider a PIL, seeking regulation of gambling, and do needful in 'larger public interest'.
