Selection stance is clear

The Asia Cup 2023 has been touted as a perfect dress rehearsal for the World Cup 2023, and thus the addition of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer was imperative. Moreover, the snub of Yuzvendra Chahal also clarified that he is not in the scheme of things for the World Cup, which eventually became evident when the provisional squad for the one-day mayhem came out. Thus, selectors vouch for the 15 men who are playing the Asia Cup, to not only bring the continental cup but also rise to the occasion when the world will be here in India.

Sanjay Manjrekar wants team management to bring SKY in the scheme of things

To win the World Cup, Team India is currently entangled between the trio of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan. Two of the three will have the onus of providing solidarity in the middle order. However, according to Sanjay Manjrekar, Suryakumar Yadav should be in the mix as well and must be given the game time to assess whether he can come as an option.

"KL Rahul coming in at that position is good for Indian cricket because they wanted to test his match fitness out. If India is looking to test the waters before the World Cup, then you must give Suryakumar a game. His One-Day credentials are still in doubt and we don't know if he would make the same kind of impact," Manjrekar added.
