In the realm of international cricket in 2023, no batting pair has accumulated more runs together than Rohit and Shubman. They have scored a total of 1249 runs in 19 innings, boasting an impressive average of 69, including four century-run stands.

Shubman Gill on Rohit Sharma's captaincy

When asked about Rohit Sharma's best quality, Shubman Gill emphasized Rohit's capacity to grant players a significant degree of freedom. Whether it's senior or junior players in the team, Shubman said Rohit encourages them to play their own game. Shubman further added that Rohit avoids burdening players with excessive responsibilities and instead urges them to rely on their own judgment.

It's worth noting that Shubman himself holds the distinction of being the leading international run-scorer in 2023, amassing 1764 runs at an average of 51. He has notched up an impressive seven centuries, which includes a remarkable ODI double hundred and a T20I century early in the year.

Shubman's most recent century for India came against Australia in the second ODI of their ongoing three-match series on Sunday. The right-handed batsman scored a brilliant 104 off 97 balls to help India post a mammoth total of 399/5 in 50 overs. Shubman's knock was made up of six boundaries and four sixes.

All eyes on SKY, Rahul and Iyer in the World Cup

Apart from Shubman, Shreyas Iyer also scored a century in the match. KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav contributed with a half-century each. India then bundled up the Aussies for 217 runs, winning the match by 99 runs (DLS method). Shubman Gill is likely to be rested for the third and final ODI against Australia on Wednesday.
