How India management denied Shubman Gill a chance to replace Babar Azam as No.1 batter?

The Indian cricket team will be aiming to win the third IND vs AUS ODI match in Rajkot and boost their preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.

Team India batter Shubman Gill, who is currently the second-best ODI batter in the world continued his sublime form with the bat in the second IND vs AUS ODI match. Gill is currently the highest ODI run scorer in 2023 and slammed his fifth ton of the year in the second ODI match against Australia in Indore. Shubman contributed to the team's 99-run win and played an innings of 104 runs with six fours and four sixes.

Shubman Gill to miss 3rd ODI against Australia

Shubman Gill is currently one of the best batsmen in world cricket in recent times. Gill has scored runs in all the cricketing formats in the year 2023. Gill is the youngest batter to score a double hundred in an ODI match, which he scored against New Zealand earlier this year. Shubman also scored the most runs in the 2023 Asia Cup which included a ton against Bangladesh, however, he was not able to take his team towards victory.

Shubman Gill is also the first choice to open along with Rohit Sharma in the ODI World Cup 2023. Gill has been constantly playing for the Indian cricket team since January this year. Gill, who played knocks of 74 and 104 runs in the first two IND vs AUS ODIs two, has been rested by the Indian team management for the third IND vs AUS ODI match. Gill was on the verge of surpassing number ODI batter Babar Azam in the ODI batsmen's rankings and just needed 43 more rating points to achieve the milestone. Gill will now have to wait for Team India's first ODI World Cup 2023 match on October 8 to get past Babar and become the number one ODI batsman in the world.

Babar Azam's poor run with the bat in the 2023 Asia Cup

Pakistani batter Babar Azam scored a century in the opening match of the 2023 Asia Cup against an inexperienced Nepal bowling line up struggled to score runs against quality teams like India and Sri Lanka. Babar failed to score runs in the important Super 4s clash, which was one of the main reasons behind Pakistan's early exit from the Asia Cup.
