Hyderabad stadium's status as IPL final venue under cloud after gale tears roof apart

Cricket fans in Hyderabad must have been in seventh-heaven when it was announced on Monday that the summit clash of the ongoing edition of IPL will be played in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 12.

Cricket fans in Hyderabad must have been in seventh-heaven when it was anunced on Monday that summit clash of ongoing edition of IPL will be played in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 12. Hyderabad was also initially scheduled to host Eliminator and second Qualifier on May 6 and 10 but due to security logistics amid ongoing elections, those two matches were shifted to Vizag, and w, final is also in doubt.

reason is dam suffered by  stadium as a result of a heavy gale blowing away a major portion of capy at South-end on Grand Stand late on Monday evening. officials will w need to find an alternative at earliest. y can eir make arrangements for capy or peel it off along with floodlights, as per reports.

In 2013, Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) had spent Rs.32 lakh for installation of makeshift towers under capy of South Stand. work on capy at both rth and South stands had started in February 2011 after a written agreement between HCA and  M\s Star Mercantile which involved a cost of Rs.21 crores.  As of w, officials are t sure if re is any insurance cover for dam. Sunrisers Hyderabad will be playing ir last home game against Kings XI Punjab on April 29.

Earlier, MA Chidambaram Stadium was scheduled to host final as it is home ground of defending champions Chennai Super Kings but venue had to be shifted to Hyderabad on account of  n-clearance of three stands. Interestingly, even as eventual fate of IPL 12 final venue is still in doubt, two home teams of two stadiums that have been considered so far - CSK and SRH - will be playing against each or in Chennai.
