Prithvi Shaw slammed a record-breaking double hundred for Northamptonshire in their One-Day Cup match against Somerset. The 23-year-old ran short of just six runs from a brilliant 250 as he registered a 153-ball 244 to put out a staunch message to his critics. The Delhi Capitals batsman had a pretty awful Indian Premier League season last time. But this innings could prove to be a major breather for his on-and-off career.

Youtuber in controversy over Prithvi Shaw comment

But the social media influencer later came to know about his mother's demise at a very early age and posted an apology on social media.

He tweeted, "I realize my mistake after people's responses. This pic is Prithvi Shaw's who lost his mother at the age of 4. Which makes my post extremely insensitive and not something I am proud of. In an attempt to invoke my mom's natural reaction to my fitness levels in my 20s, I made a horrible mistake."

"I do not expect you to read this or least of all forgive me. But it is my responsibility to apologize for this. I am truly sorry. For clarification - I do not follow cricket actively, so I was not aware of Prithvi (beyond his name). Would have acted differently was I aware of him and his history. PS: Not deleting this, so that this continues to act as a reminder to me."

Prithvi Shaw is yet to make any comment on this and it remains to be seen how this scenario unfolds.

Shaw not thinking about Indian selectors

Prithvi Shaw stated after the game that his primary goal was to take pleasure in his time with the group. After the match, he expressed his thoughts on where he stands.

"Definitely experience for sure. Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here, have a good time with the players over here and the support staff. Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity... They're really looking after me. I'm really enjoying it."
