Former Aussie International is not convinced about Rohit Sharma's captaincy

After taking the helm from Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma has had a mixed stint as the captain of Team India. The 5-time IPL trophy winner could not marshall his troops towards victory in the WTC 2023 final, and before that suffered a horrific exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. In between, he has been able to pass the test when it comes to retaining the Border Gavaskar Trophy, however, there is a lot more expected and it seems a win that will define the reign of Sharma is yet to come. The entire country is longing for an ICC trophy win but according to former Australia international, Gregg Blewett, the likelihood of Rohit Sharma lifting the World Cup is bleak.

Speaking to WillowTalk Podcast, Blewett shared his thoughts on Team India and said he fears that Team India may fall again on the big stage. Blewett also said that Rohit Sharma is walking on a thin line.

"I am worried about India's ODI captain. I really am. Rohit Sharma is just clinging on, and I would have thought that India might have made a move by now on the one-day leadership. I just can see it going wrong again for India. They always get to these World Cups and they just don't get it done and I’m just not sure that Rohit is getting it done for them," the former batter, who played 46 Tests and 32 ODIs for Australia between 1995 and 2000, pointed out.

'Rohit is just hanging by a thread'

Blewett further said that he does not see Virat Kohli being entrusted with the captaincy again and reiterated his stance on Rohit Sharma, saying that he is only getting the game because he is the captain.

"Virat as leader? I think he is done and I don't know whether you can go back to him now. I don't know, I just see that Rohit is just hanging by a thread. He is getting a game at the moment because he is captain. And I don't know whether that's the right way to go," added Blewett.
