'I apologized to him': Ben Stokes gives hilarious response on breaking Jason Roy’s record

The England's star cricketer Ben Stokes gave a cheeky response when asked about him breaking Jason Roy's record in the England vs New Zealand 3rd ODI match.

The England Cricket Team finally took the lead  in the ENG vs NZ series during their 3rd ODI match on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. In the oval, New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl.  England were unstoppable with the bat and went on to create 368 runs in 48.1 overs. During the innings of the Black Caps, they struggled against English bowlers and were all-out by 187 runs in 39 overs.

Ben Stokes breaks Jason Roy’s record

On September 13, at the Kennington Oval in London, during the third one-day match against New Zealand, Stokes put on an incredible performance, scoring an amazing 182 runs off just 124 balls. For the highest individual score by an England batsman in an ODI, this outstanding innings broke Roy's previous mark. In January 2018, Roy defeated Australia in Melbourne, scoring 180 runs off 151 balls.

The fact that Stokes smashed 15 fours and an astonishing nine sixes during his innings was a testament to his exceptional shot selection. Following New Zealand's request for England to bat first at The Oval, because of his outstanding performance, England was able to score a massive 368 runs in 48.1 overs.

Ben Stokes was in a hilarious mood  after reaching this feat 

Jason Roy received a lighthearted apology from Ben Stokes after he broke Roy's previous record for most runs scored in a men's ODI for England (individual). Stokes answered in a joking manner when asked about his views on breaking Roy's record at the post-game presentation. He said:

“I apologized to him upstairs.”

“It felt good. Obviously, coming back into the team after a while. I’ve always said it’s nice to contribute towards winning games as well.”

While Stokes enjoyed himself at the crease, the New Zealanders had a tough time and were bowled out for 187 in 39 overs. The ENG vs NZ 4th ODI series will be played on Friday, September 15, 2023. England enjoy the lead in the series by 2-1. Their T20I series ended in a draw. New Zealand will aim to equalize the series, as then the series winner could be decided in the fifth and final ODI match.
