For highest individual score by an England batsman in an ODI, this outstanding innings broke Roy's previous mark. In January 2018, Roy defeated Australia in Melbourne, scoring 180 runs off 151 balls.

Jason Roy received a ligharted apology from Ben Stokes after he broke Roy's previous record for most runs scored in a men's ODI for England (individual). Stokes answered in a joking manner when asked about his views on breaking Roy's record at post-game presentation. He said:

“It felt good. Obviously, coming back into team after a while. I’ve always said it’s nice to contribute towards winning games as well.”
