Tilak Varma reveals his parents' reaction after India call-up

Having made a name for himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) while playing for Mumbai Indians, Tilak Varma spoke about his emotional journey to the national side in a heartwarming video shared by the BCCI. Varma appeared in the video with fellow cricketer Ishan Kishan. The call-up came as a surprise to him while he was participating in the Duleep Trophy, leaving his parents overwhelmed with emotions upon hearing the news, Verma revealed.

"I got to know about my selection in the Indian team while playing in the Duleep Trophy. I immediately shared the news with my parents and coach, they were very emotional. I spoke briefly to my mom and dad but then cut the call because they started crying over the phone. I wanted to speak to them for some more time but then they got emotional so I disconnected," Varma said in a chat with Ishan Kishan.

Varma's rise to prominence began during the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, where he amassed 397 runs in 14 matches for Mumbai Indians, showcasing his prowess with 29 fours and 16 sixes. His remarkable form continued into the 2023 IPL season, where he scored 343 runs in just 11 matches, solidifying his reputation as a star in the making. Varma's performances fasttracked his journey to the Indian side, getting him a spot in the squad.
