India's reply got off to a strong start, driven by 39 by Rohit Sharma, 36 by Shubman Gill, and a composed 46 from Virat Kohli. After losing six wickets without scoring any more runs, the batting collapsed from 153/4 to 153 all out, despite a fantastic session by seamer Lungi Ngidi who took three wickets in an over.
By the end of the day, South Africa had started their second innings and were 36 runs behind India at 62 for three. Remaining undefeated, Aiden Markram and David Bedingham sought to lay down a formidable gauntlet for India on the forthcoming second Test day.
What did Sunil Gavaskar say about IND vs SA 2nd Test?
Sunil Gavaskar remains resolute, saying that India has complete control of the game amid all of the ups and downs on the thrilling opening day. During a Star Sports discussion, the legendary cricket player shared his opinion that India will ultimately win. Gavaskar continued by expressing his belief that the South African hitters are not capable of presenting the Indian squad with serious obstacles. Sunil Gavaskar said:
"Three wickets have already fallen. India are still in the lead. So I don't think this match can go out of India's grasp. Yes, it might not be an innings victory."
"They (India) might have to bat a little but I don't think South Africa have batters who can score 150-200 runs and trouble the Indian team a little,"
